So I haven't written everyday for quite some time. And this little scene is something I can't up with thinking of a birthday gift.
Warning it's gets a bit chaotic and some foul language. But most of all some asshole behavior.
Enjoy
Watching his friend Robbie do an inadequate form of chin-ups on the pull-up bar, Boone grinned then sipped at his straw. His McDonalds cup half empty as he sat on the brick step wall of the Charter 1 clubhouse. Their home away from campus.
“You should try some, Gecko,” Robbie said as his arms descended then pulled back up.
“No thanks,” Boone said. “Not a requirement for my data acquisition skills.”
“Nerd.”
Boone’s cellular rang and he reached in his breast pocket. “Hello,” he said on his small Nokia phone.
“Boone,” Samantha said in her angelic voice. “How are you?”
“Well it's midnight in the city of Angels,” he said. “What do you think?”
“Babysitting?”
“Always.”
“Poor Boone, always watching the neighborhood drunk.”
“Yeah, yeah,” Boone mumbled.
“I don’t feel bad for you,” she said.
“Are you talking to a girl?” Robbie released from the bar and dropped to the ground. “Who ya talking to?” he said and walked up to Boone. Standing over him, Robbie puts his hand atop Boone’s head and begins thrusting his pelvis. “Are you gonna…” Robbie starts moaning like a woman.
“Knock it off,” Boone pulled back.
“Yeah, that’s what you want,” Robbie moaned.
“Is that Robbie?” Sam asked.
“Yes,” Boone pulled away from Robie. “How’d you tell?”
“Because he’s being obnoxious.”
“Almost as obnoxious as,” Boone pushed his boney hand against Robbie’s hip and stood up. “Stop,” he whispered to him. “About as obnoxious as your boyfriend.”
“Nobody,” Sam said, “I mean nobody–”
“Who is it?” Robbie stopped thrusting and stayed at arms reach.
“Is obnoxious as Robbie,” Sam said on the line.
“Sam,” Boone whispered to Robbie.
“I FUCKING LOVE YOU SAM!”
“And tell Robbie–” the drunk took the phone from Boone.
“Oww,” Boone said, holding his ear lobe, because the web of Robbie’s hand caught his ear.
“I love you Sam,” Robbie said. His voice seemingly going faster than his mouth could move. Alcohol wasn’t his only demon. “We-fukkin-mis-you-com-now–”
“Whoa, whoa whoa, Rob,” Samantha said. “I know. I love you guys too.”
“Such a fukkn sweetheart.”
“Can you put Boone back on the line?” She asked.
“Boone!” Robbie called and tossed the phone at a high arch behind him.
“Crap,” Boone lept to the ground and caught his phone.
“Xbox when you get done,” Robbie made his way to the clubhouse. “I’m kicking your ass in Halo.”
“Boone?” Sam said.
“Yeah, I’m here.”
“Is Robbie alright?” She asked. “He seems a bit more unusual than normal.”
“He took a few bumps of cocaine earlier.”
“Jesus Christ, Boone!”
“I know, I know,” he shook his head. “I’m working on it.”
“Well get that shit right soon,” Sam stirred looking at the morning sunshine from across the globe.
“He’ll be clean by the end of summer.”
“I hope so,” Sam said.
“Speaking of getting clean,” Boone adds. “Are you going to the confessional with that dirty mouth?”
“Probably, after my first break,” she said. “Catholic churches are on every corner here in Europe.” She paused for a moment searching for a rebuttal. “Are you gonna pray for strength to stop enabling Robbie?”
“Of course.”
“Until you find that strength,” she adds. “Can you not have my boyfriend alone with Robbie?”
“Sure,” Boone agreed. “I’ll keep Christian far away from Rob.”
“Thanks, Boone.”
“Why did you call, Sam?”
“Oh yeah,” she said. “We’ve got a member’s birthday coming up this week.”
“I didn’t see anything on the calendar,” Boone said.
“It's a Charter 2 clubhouse member,” she explains. “This person keeps to themself–”
“You’re not talking about the Ice Queen, are you?”
“Yes, I am,” Sam exhaled. “Alexis is different but she still needs to feel like she’s a part of everyone.”
“Camaraderie,” Boone said.
“Thank you, Boone. It is way too early in the morning for me,” she sips her expresso.
“And way too late for me,” he looked over to the house thinking about being slaughtered in Halo.
“Who are you recruiting?” she asked.
“I’ll start with the rookie, Courtney. Then go up the chain.”
“Thank you, Boone.”
“You’re welcome,” he said. “You be safe there, alright?”
“Right back at you.”
The two said their goodbyes and Boone contemplated on how to approach everyone about the party. Team leaders and girls first, cranky guys will fall in line.
“Hey asshole!” Robbie shouted from the window. “Come
on in, I need somebody’s ass to beat.”
“Alright, I’m coming.”
