Is it possible to write a story without an antagonist?
One thing I've always had an issue with is that fiction stories need an antagonist.
My work around this is creating the protagonist as an anti-hero and surround them with moral/immoral) characters. That way their moral traits can rub off on these “shades of gray” protagonists, so that they could (but not always) do the right thing.
I love to have my protagonist in a seemingly unwinnable situation. Our anti-hero should be a shade lighter/darker by the conclusion.
